BRIEF HISTORY OF CONFLUENCE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TEACHING HOSPITAL, OKENE (CUSTECH-TH)
Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Okene (CUSTECH-TH), was established by a law enacted by the Kogi State House of Assembly, and assented to by His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State on the 6th December, 2024 in response to the need for a State owned teaching hospital established by Kogi State Government, to provide facilities for diagnostic, curative, preventive, rehabilitative training services in the Medical treatment for the people of Kogi state, and the international community.
Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Okene (CUSTECH-TH), was formerly known as Reference Hospital Okene (RHO). It was established by a law enacted by the Kogi State House of Assembly, and assented to by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State on the 21st August, 2020 in response to the need for a tertiary health institution to provide qualitative healthcare services for the people of Kogi state, and the immediate catchment area.
Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Okene (CUSTECH-TH) is located in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. CUSTECH-TH, Okene (a signature project) was built and equipped by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State and commissioned by His Excellency, former President Muhammadu Buhari on 29th December, 2023.
The Pioneer Chief Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer (CMD/CEO) of Reference Hospital Okene, Professor Solomon Avidime appointed by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, assumed duties on 14th August, 2023 till 19th November, 2024, when a new Chief Medical Director, Dr. Shaibu Stephen Babatunde was appointed by His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State on 19th November, 2024.

Profile of CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR PROFILE
Dr. Shaibu Stephen Babatunde was born in Ageva, in Okene LGA of Kogi State. He is a native of Okene town in Okene LGA of the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State.
He attained his primary education in LSMB Primary School, Ageva and RCM Catholic Primary School, Nagazi in 1983.
He went to Community Secondary School, Ogaminana where he obtained his Junior School Certificate and proceeded to Titcombe College (ECWA), Egbe, in Yagba West, LGA of Kogi State where he completed his secondary education and acquired his Senior School Certificate in 1991.
He had his undergraduate medical training in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB,BS) Degree in October, 2003.
He completed his housemanship at ABU Zaria in 2004/2005.
From where he proceeded to ECWA Hospital Egbe, where he had his residency training in Family Medicine under the tutelage of the Fellows of ECWA Hospital Egbe, UITH Ilorin and ECWA Evangel Hospital (Bingham University Teaching Hospital) Jos and was certified Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (Family Medicine) after passing the various prescribed exams.
Dr. Shaibu Stephen Babatunde has worked as the Medical Director and Consultant Trainer, ECWA Hospital Egbe, and also served in various medical boards of ECWA up till March 2012, before proceeding to Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja where he worked till November, 2024 before his current appointment.
At the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, he served in various capacities as TB/HIV site co-ordinator, Family Medicine Clinician, HOD Family Medicine for many years, Consultant Family Medicine Trainer, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) and Acting Chief Medical Director. He was also a board member of the hospital.
On 19th November, 2024, Dr. Shaibu Stephen Babatunde was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of CUSTECH Teaching, Okene.

Profile of HEAD OF ADMINISTRATION
Hajia Rabiat Sheidu Avosuahi was born on 9th June, 1976 in Okene Local Government Area of tye present day Kogi State.
She obtained her first school leaving certificate from St. Andrew’s school Okene in 1986 then proceeded to Government Girls Day Secondary School, Otutu, Okene for her senior secondary school certificate in1992.
She then went further to the Bayero University, Kano where she bagged a first degree in the year 2000 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the Usman Dan Fodio, Sokoto in 2010.
Hajia Rabiat served her fatherland under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Nigerian College of Aviation, Zaria between July 2000 and June 2001.
Upon completion of her service year, she secured employment with the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Okene in December 2007 as a class teacher and rose through the ranks to the position of Vice Principal (Administration) before she was transferred to the Reference Hospital, Okeneas Head, Administration in October, 2023. Her hobbies are reading and research. She is happily married with children.
